Chandigarh: Apart from planning a music reality show 'Punjab Idol', a programme similar to 'American Idol', the Punjab culture policy also focuses on establishing a museum dedicated to folk music wherein visitors can listen to old recordings of Punjabi music.

Punjab is the second state in the country after Manipur to have come up with the culture policy. As per the policy, the television viewers would determine the winner of Punjab Idol through telephone, internet and SMS text voting. The policy aims to provide a springboard to launch career of new and promising recording artists.

The department of tourism and culture affairs had last week circulated notified copy of the policy to all the concerned departments directing them to implement the policy in time bound manner.
